Below are all of the committees that need your help:
Teacher Appreciation
Coordinate lunches/dinners for information day, back to school night, conferences. Coordinate volunteers to provide appreciation food/tokens once per month. Lead teacher appreciation week in May. Commitment: few hours/month.
Restaurant Nights
Identify and invite restaurants willing to host fundraising events throughout the year. Advertise the nights to families. Appreciate restaurants. Commitment: few hours/month.
Homeroom Parent Support
Create sign-up and information sheets to recruit parents to get involved in classroom events and parties. Corresponds with homeroom parents around special events, answers questions, etc. Commitment: few hours/month.
Social Media
Create and schedule posts about school events, needs, and opportunities. Answer questions. Create and promote events. Commitment: few hours/week.
PTO Website
Update website with information, calendar items, adjust forms and online orders. Commitment: few hours/month.
Meet the Masters Art Lessons
Deliver an art lesson (prepared for you in advance) to a K-2nd grade class. Commitment: Number and timing of lessons is coordinated by you and the teacher.
Fall Family Event
Plan a fun family event. Traditionally, an outdoor fall festival with bouncers, games, and food. Volunteers coordinate vendors, custodial staff, security, advertising (posters, flyers), and shifts of volunteers at the event. Commitment: 2 weeks in September/October.
Spring Family Event
Plan a fun family event. Traditionally, a family event with BINGO games, prizes, food, and raffle baskets. Volunteers coordinate vendors, custodial staff, security, advertising (posters, flyers), raffle/prize donations, and shifts of volunteers at the event. Commitment: 2-3 weeks in early spring.
Book Fair
Volunteer for shifts helping set up, take down, run cash register, and assist students in selecting books at the book fair. Commitment: several hours during one week in fall and/or one week in spring.
School T-Shirt
Handle design, ordering, and distributing of the school shirts. Commitment: run t-shirt contest in spring, place order in July, sort and deliver shirts in August/September.
Fall Fundraiser Celebration
Works with VP of Fundraising to help promote check-writing campaign fundraiser through flyers, posters, promotion during drop off/pick up. Plan, set up, and clean up a celebration on the last day of the campaign. Commitment: 2 weeks in September.
Box Tops & Amazon Prime
Works with VP of Fundraising to help promote collection of Box Tops for Education and signing families up for Amazon Prime donations. Commitment: few hours/month.
Corporate Sponsorships
Works with VP of Fundraising to identify and recruit corporate/business sponsors to fund projects and needs at Will Rogers. Recognize corporate sponsors. Commitment: few hours/month.
School Movie Night
Coordinate a movie night for students and their families at the school. Sell snacks and drinks. Commitment: 1 week.
PALS Room
Staff the school's workroom helping to prepare classroom materials. Tasks include running copies, cutting, collating, stapling, typing, and laminating. Commitment: varies, PALS lead sets a schedule for staffing the workroom.
Popcorn Days
Purchase pre-popped popcorn, bag it, deliver it to classrooms, and clean up. Obligation: one Friday a month.
Yearbook
Handles collection of photos, ordering, designing/layout, and distribution of annual yearbooks for the school year. Work with Josten's representatives. Must adhere to strict deadlines. Commitment: yearlong.
5th Grade Career Day
Recruit professionals from 10-12 different occupations to speak to 5th grade students about their careers. Students will rotate. Plan a small reception for guests after the event that occurs in early May. Commitment: 1-2 weeks in late April/early May.
School Beautification
Coordinate efforts to keep Will Rogers looking great! Based on plans developed with the PTO and the school/district, this can include murals, clean-up days, and decorating planters and hallways.
Watch D.O.G.S.
WATCH D.O.G.S.® is an innovative program being used by schools across America which helps them to be positively impacted by the committed involvement of fathers and father-figures in their student’s life. Our goal is to have you spend at least one day this year at the school to be a positive male role model and to provide an extra set of eyes and ears.
Who are Watch D.O.G.S.? Fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles, and other father figures who volunteer to serve at least one day a year in a variety of school activities as assigned by the school principal or other administrator.
